A couple of weeks ago, I was interviewed by Fox News for their show Career Accelerator.

The show’s host, Lauren Simonetti, was interested in how your email address affects the first impression you make to employers.

Why does your email address matter?

Your email address is often the first thing employers see. Employers see your email address even before your name if you email your resume and in many Applicant Tracking Systems, if you apply through job board/company website.

Your email address can make it easier for employers to find you. Or … depending on the email address that you choose, it can make it more difficult for employers to find you. Making it difficult for employers to find you loses you interviews and opportunities.

See my answers to questions about job seekers’ email addresses in the following Fox News video segment. I’ll cover suggestions of what email addresses to avoid using but also the types of email addresses that can help build a great first impression to employers.

Note that my segment runs from 7:18 to 13:00. Unfortunately, Fox News prevents editing of their online videos, so after the leading commercial, you’ll want to fast forward to 7:18 to see the start of my segment on job seeker emails.
